Proverbs 11

Proverbs 11:1  A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, But accurate weights are his delight.

I believe this verse is meaning that God likes it more when we put balance in our life. We shouldn't focus all our attention on some things like material goods, etc. It is okay to enjoy some of those privileges, but then we must also take time to talk to God and build a more loving relationship with him. This week I am going to take more time out of my schedule to listen and talk to God. Before I go to bed, I will connect and talk with God. I will also try to refrain from being on my phone constantly and focus on doing more productive things.

Proverbs 10

Proverbs 10:4  He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, But the hand of the diligent brings wealth.

This verse is telling us that people who are lazy and don't try hard will not be successful. People that try their best and work really hard will prosper and live a successful life. This verse is important to understand because it teaches us that we must work our hardest to be successful in life. If we work hard, God will reward us with a good life. If we are lazy and don't try as hard we will suffer the consequences of a poor life. By taking the advice of this verse, I will try to work harder in school. I will dedicate more time to doing my homework at home instead of watching TV and being lazy. I will also be more helpful around the house and do chores to help my mother.

Proverbs 9

Proverbs 9:6  Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."

This verse means that you should stop taking the easy way out and live life to the fullest. You should understand what God wants you to do and follow his ways. It might be easier to just do what you want to do, but you must listen and understand what God wants you to do. This verse teaches us that you can't just live life without a purpose. This verse is important to us because if we want to live happily and end up with God in heaven then we must understand what God calls us to do. This week, I am going to try to understand what God wants me to do. I am also going to stop taking the easy way out and live my life how God wants me to live instead of just how I want to live.

More Features!?

The sunscreen article I came upon was about the lack of sunscreen kids use. They posted statistics on what age groups use sunscreen and how not many kids use it. It talked about how most teenagers like the appearance of looking tan so they refrain from using sunscreen. This article was trying to get the message out about skin cancers and how more kids need to be using sunscreen. Kids are at a high risk of getting skin cancer so this article was trying to make kids aware of the effects of not using sunscreen.

The next feature story I read was a list of 9 things that Jillian Michaels can't live without. It was very informative on items that would be very useful. She talked about alternative products to use that were non-toxic and less harmful to your body. I thought this was an intruiging article because I learned about organic products I didn't know about. I also learned about how some of the everyday products I use can be harmful to me. It was a good, attention grabbing, and informative article.

Proverbs 8

8:7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

This verse stuck out to me because it talks about how it is bad to lie. You must always tell the truth because lying causes many problems. Being honest shows good character so it is important to always tell the truth. I also like how the word "abomination" is used. That's what mostly stuck this verse out for me. To apply this to my life, I will refrain from telling lies even if it is just a small white lie because those can develop into even bigger lies. I will also try to help out other people that are struggling at being honest with themsleves and with the world.

Feature Stories

My first feature story would be explaining the lack of heat in this school. It would be a story that students here could relate to. Many students seem to be suffering from the coldness and would like many teachers to see this article so that they have more sympathy towards students who break dress code to wear jackets.

My second story would involve tips on how to cram for a test. Many students stress about upcoming tests they have because they procrastinate so badly. I could inform them on the best ways to study right before the day of the test. Many students at Gehlen could use these tips.

Feature Story

On CNN, a story was shown raising the issue of kids getting illnesses from their school. A third-grader in Winsted, Connecticut, last year, Matthew Asselin frequently got sick. He missed a total of 53 days of school do to pneumonia, sinus infections, respiratory infections, and painful headaches. During the summer, Matthew was completely fine. When then put him back in school that next fall, he started to developed these illnesses again. His mother realized that it had to be the school making him sick. Studies have estimated that a third or more of U.S. schools have mold, dust and other indoor air problems serious enough to provoke respiratory issues like asthma in students and teachers. A national survey of school nurses found that 40% knew children and staff adversely affected by indoor pollutants.
I thought this was a good example of a feature story because it raised awareness of filth in schools. It caught my attention and that is what a feature story is supposed to do.
